Veining is a technique that should imitate the veins in a type of wood, but is usually so imaginatively executed that it does not look like an actual type of wood but is more decorative in itself.
Veining was popular throughout the 1800s and into the early 1900s.

It went from being a replacement for those who could not afford the more expensive veneered mahogany furniture to becoming a decoration technique in itself to being a replacement for the more expensive furniture in the early 1900s.

This mirror has a classic 18th century top, a palm tree in gilded relief.
The mirror glass is old with a lot of small defects you like to see on the old mirrors, ie small spots and black spots. It is difficult to take a picture of.
Its edge is decorated with "laurels wreaths", flowers in corners and a rosette below. All in fine gilding.

It has a little peeling at the bottom and traces of an old repair at the bottom of the arch.
The back is built according to the old principles and with cut corners on all the planks.
