Unusual small chest from the 18th century

Sold

Length 60 cm.
Height with the legs 40 cm.
Unusual small chest in oak with large metal fittings from the 18th century.
Usually, coffins like these are well over 1.5 meters long and much taller since they were used to collect bridal equipment in. A small coffin like this has been used to store and transport important documents or perhaps money in.

It has many hand-forged metal fittings on both lids, corners and sides, all of which are beautifully dark-patinated with a hint of red color.
Some of the fittings are old repairs to the coffin.
It still has its original and well-functioning lock.

Despite its age, the chest is very charming and in functional order.
