A set of Danish brass candleholders

Sold

Height 18 cm.

The stakes are quite unusual stamped by E. Dalhoff. for Jørgen Balthasar Dalhoff
Jørgen Balthasar Dalhoff born in the year 1800 and died in 1890.
Jørgen Balthasar Dalhoff was under the crown prince Prince Christian Frederick's patronage, later Christian VIII (1839-1848).
In 1828 he was admitted into the gold smith union, exceptionally without a master's examination. He became the royal court's goldsmith in 1833 due to the close relationship with the Crown Prince.

When Denmark turns to democracy in 1848 and the royal family loses its formal power, Dalhoff ceases his silver production and sells his workshop to its former employe, Anton Michelsen.
However, Dalhoff continues to work and experiment with other metals and materials. He is still working at the age of 85 years and dies first as a 90 year old.

The candlesticks are in good condition - some marks at the foot. One stage has been in to parts but it is glued and got new plaster in the foot. The other is a little loose at the foot, but nothing that spoils it.
